Xinjiang As one of China's five autonomous regions for ethnic minorities, Xinjiang is divided into Southern Xinjiang and Northern Xinjiang. The majestic Tianshan Mountains stretch from east to west in the middle of Xinjiang. Southern Xinjiang is south of the Tianshan Mountains, and Northern Xinjiang is north of the Tianshan Mountains. With a vast territory and rich resources, it is a world-famous hometown of song and dance, a hometown of melons and fruits, and a country of gold and jade. There are pure plateau lakes, beautiful snow-capped mountains, desolate Gobi deserts, ancient cultural sites, and hospitable ethnic minorities.


The main tourist areas in Northern Xinjiang include Urumqi, Altay, Yili, etc. It is famous for its unique natural scenery. The scenery in Northern Xinjiang is mainly grasslands, lakes, and Tianshan Mountains. Compared with Southern Xinjiang, the economic development of Northern Xinjiang is better.


The main tourist areas in southern Xinjiang are Kashgar, Hotan, Aksu, Bayinguoleng and other areas, which are mainly deserts and Gobi, the tenth largest desert in the world. In ancient times, southern Xinjiang was a prosperous holy land on the Silk Road. Kashgar, as a transportation hub on the ancient Silk Road, is also the only national historical and cultural city in Xinjiang. Here, you can fully experience the ethnic customs and cultural arts of the Uyghur people. Compared with northern Xinjiang, southern Xinjiang has a stronger cultural and ethnic atmosphere.
